Niamh Shapcott

I am an artist who specialises in ceramics, creating fake weaponry and armour out of clay. Born and raised on a council estate in Derby to young parents, I have always had a fascination with escapism, grand fables and fictitious worlds, which I attribute to being a child and watching my father play video games after a long day of manual labour. This translates in my predominantly medieval dark fantasy style of work, depicting dungeon-like scenes. Working part-time as a tattooer, my affinity for ceramics was first explored as a way to show designs on tangible ceramic body parts. This, however, quickly spiralled into exploring the relationship between the harsh textures of clay and the anxiety riddled, metaphorical armours we coat our bodies in day to day.
