I'm Amber, a current third year student studying BA (Hons) Fashion Design at NTU. My concept is called behind the curtain: burlesque in the veil of reality which explores themes of concealment and escapism that is heavily inspired by the 1972 movie called Cabaret. The vintage mood is complemented with the contradictory aesthetics of tailoring and burlesque. This project sees experiments with fabrics, specifically lace, and the way that it can be manipulated and stiffened to allow for a precise tailoring finish. Behind the curtain: burlesque in the veil of reality is a unisex collection to reflect how burlesque challenges traditional gender norms and celebrates diverse expressions of identity, which heavily link to my values that anyone can enjoy and wear anything. This project has pushed my passion for innovative fabrics and tailoring, where I have also gained knowledge and experience that will aid me within my future in fashion design.
