Erin Davis-Ward

I'm Erin, a final year student of the BA (Hons) Fine Art course. My practice aims to manufacture comfort, intending to explore how it is felt and universally understood. I am interested in the connection between craft and femininity, using imagery of household rituals to question our consolation in the mundane. My preference for handmade techniques means my process is slow and almost ritualistic. I use textiles traditionally to embody the feminine and create a sense of familiarity, alongside exploring earthenware and wire. I experiment with repetitive textures and text to balance care and labour, suggesting a motherly presence. This persona carries an underlying tension, to question if comfort can exist within another’s chaos. My experience at NTU has shaped me as an artist, helping me to realise my potential and develop my skills through a narrative that I feel passionate about. After university, I would like to use my creativity for others through a career in Art Therapy.
