Through my time at university, I have always found myself back at the knit machines. Although CAD, garment design and garment make all fed into my learning. I found my creative practice revolved around my knitting. This meant that I always gravitated back to the domestic machines, going into hand manipulation to play with shape and fitting, communicating my ideas through stitch. My final major project is centred around exploring the idea of women in myths, retelling the male centred tales through knitwear. Women in tales have been widely shown as temptress and creatures to be saved. In Greek mythology, nymphs, the focus of this project, are mostly seen in art being abducted or raped by Greek gods, reinforcing this idea that women are to be captivated and domesticated by their male counterparts. In my project I hope to look at nature around me to inspire stitch development and communicate this intrinsically feminine nature.
