'Behind the Design' began with the phenomenon of cultural appropriation in the fashion industry, drawing inspiration from traditional Chinese paintings and artworks, taking classic visual elements such as blossoms, clouds, and animals. The project aims to explore the philosophy and connotations behind traditional designs and patterns while respecting the culture and modernizing them through a combination of traditional craftsmanship and digital embroidery. A collection of textiles using various techniques, including smocking, digital printing, and hand embroidery, will be created for the mid-level fashion womenswear market. As a BA (Hons) Textile Design student specializing in embroidery, I have been incorporating my own cultural heritage and innovation into my designs. I hope to become an independent textile designer after completing a Master's degree.
