After exploring an array of skills at Nottingham Trent University that included scenic painting to set construction and taking on placements at Punchdrunk and Oily Cart, I have discovered my passion is to design abstract sets for theatre. I recently designed the set and costume for 'Romeo and Juliet' at the Lakeside Arts Theatre in Nottingham, I worked out a way to make a much-loved play with numerous previous adaptations into something new and unexpected. I wanted to create a world in which the characters have lived for eternity and feels like the woodland goes on forever. When approaching most projects I have looked at contemporary artists and installations that link to a theme I want to carry through the design, I like to experiment with changing perspectives and making areas intimate to creating a large expanse, I also enjoy incorporating ways the actors can move the set and make the experience immersive.
