A lot of my practice involves the collection of discarded material. These object’s previous functions are removed and reimagined, becoming a palette of materials to create with. In the past I found the ending of a work restrictive. So, I often work in circular rhythms: gathering, storing, activating, deconstructing. Whether activated, transforming into something new in construction, or stored, waiting for the next iteration, there is an attempt to explore/expand these materials’ lifespans. There is never any new work being put out; it is constantly in flux. In turn, an exciting sense of potential and possibility is formed as it’s always ready to evolve and adapt. The materials are also activated through participation. With the introduction of a set of instructions I will invite others to help construct or reflect on works. By inviting others to participate, disruption takes place in the best way, dissipating any hold of ownership or self-control over works.
