Lauren Christmas
I produce expressive, playful work in a variety of sizes. Moving from the countryside in Essex to a city like Nottingham was a big change, but it allowed my artistic practice to blossom. In Nottingham, I have been able to understand and develop my identity as an artist, however, I'm eager to continue my journey within London's creative hub. During my Foundation course in Art and Design, completed at West Suffolk College, I experimented with different styles which lead to a more automatic approach to making art. My gestural way of making marks was discovered here, which I further investigated at Nottingham Trent University. I use a variety of media such as acrylic, pastels and graphite. By utilising the difference in outcomes that each media can produce, my work is packed with layers of texture and colour. With influence from female artists such as Joan Mitchell and Amy Sillman, my work delves into Automatism within Abstract art.
