Yurim Byun

I am a final year BA (Hons) Textile Design student. My work begins with a personal narrative that explores the cultural dialogue between my roots as a Korean and my life in the UK. My creative process is driven by personal visual research and mixed-media experimentation. I have a particular strength in creating narratives and demonstrating accumulation by combining tracing paper collage with stitching techniques. I explore the nature of personal identity by combining delicate and sophisticated materials, such as silk and organza, with the grunge aesthetic characteristic of British street culture. In my current project, *Fluid Identity: Cultural Encounters Through Jeong*, I explore textures to reflect cultural accumulation and challenge the accumulation and blending of materials. Even after graduation, I intend to continue presenting innovative textile designs that connect diverse cultural narratives and offer sophisticated yet powerful perspectives on contemporary fashion.
