My love for costume began from a young age as I have always had a passion for clothes and storytelling, whether that be through books, film or theatre. Throughout the duration of this course, I have gained invaluable skills and confidence in myself to create fun and individual costumes that reflect both my personality and the skills that I have developed. In my final year, I made a costume for the character Cinderella for a 70s disco, ‘Studio 54’ inspired pantomime production of the classic fairytale, exploring techniques such as machine embroidery. I absolutely loved the freedom and craziness that the world of pantomime created. For my second project in my final year, I created a fantasy Victorian Circus inspired costume from my favourite book, ‘The Night Circus’ which allowed me to research more historical garments. In my time at university, I have learnt so much about the costume industry and am eager to explore it for myself and develop my personal skills and connections.
