Rhea Smith

My name is Rhea, and I’m a final-year BA (Hons) Costume Design and Construction student based in the East Midlands. I developed an interest in arts and crafts at an early age, often sitting at my grandmother’s dining table where I would spend hours creating. As a teenager, I continued this interest by studying textiles at school and college. During my degree, I’ve learnt a plethora of skills such as pattern drafting, tailoring, millinery, breaking down costume etc. developing a particular passion for historical costume and millinery. My interest has also been shaped by a love of historical film and television, which first drew me to costume. In my second summer in Nottingham, I worked with Lauren Martin in her millinery studio, where I learned new techniques and gained insight into studio practice. After graduating I plan to further my experience in the world of historical costume and millinery and hopefully have a career in costume.
