Emilia Powe

As bold costume designer, I specialise in fusing historical research with contemporary subversion. My work thrives on contrast, merging traditional silhouettes with experimental textiles, and blending theatrical spectacle with meaningful storytelling across both performance and screen. At the core of my practice is an exploration of identity, gender, and power. Influenced by drag culture and feminist narratives, I design with a rebellious edge, celebrating fluidity, challenging norms, and reclaiming overlooked voices. From the exaggerated, camp chaos of pantomime to the layered realism of period drama, I use costume as a tool to amplify character and narrative. I am particularly interested in how costume can visualise transformation across time, reflecting shifts in class, resistance, and identity through innovative material and silhouette development. Grounded in sustainability and experimentation, my work is bold, thoughtful, and unapologetically expressive.
