Abigail Adkins

As a designer, I am driven by sustainability with an emphasis on responsible sourcing and development of textiles, exploring natural materials and their properties through biomaterials, upcycling and repurposing. My work is recurrently inspired by design activism, such as my past project ‘After the bloom’, centred on the beauty in feminine aging, exploring taboo topics such as menopause. Born from these core values, my collection ‘Cycle of dismissal’ is focused on the gender health gap and issues surrounding Sexual Reproductive Health. Drawing on data from my cycle and the stories of women around me, I seek to raise awareness of the issues raised, help women feel seen and promote advocacy for their health. My practice has been recognised by the industry, gaining student sponsorships from Maderia and Gunold, earning a bursary from the Worshipful Company of Dyers and a two-week placement at NEXT. I aim to continue prioritising innovation and sustainable practices throughout my career.
