Abi Vernon

I am a woven textile designer exploring cloth as a quiet carrier of empathy and emotional awareness. Returning to art later in life, I approach weaving with calm intention, translating stillness, time and movement into minimal, tactile forms. My degree in Textile Design is part of my personal and creative development rather than a step into the commercial textile industry; weaving is a slow craft I pursue for its grounding rhythm and reflective qualities. Alongside my studies, I continue working as a carer supporting elderly people in their homes — a role that shapes my values of empathy, patience and attentiveness. Influenced by my care work and time in Japan, my practice embraces Wabi sabi, natural materials and gentle transitions. I aim to maintain a small, steady creative practice alongside my care work, creating textiles that bring comfort, presence and a slower way of being.
