I am a final year BA (Hons) Fashion Design student who is passionate about creating garments that fit well and are flattering to curve body shapes. My final project, Urembo wa Pwani (the beauty of the Coast), was inspired by my love for travel, specifically the fond memories of travel with my family along the Kenyan Coast, which allowed me to explore print design as a way of communicating the beauty of Pwani (Coast of Kenya). The other inspiration was my own struggles with finding clothes that were well-fitted and flattering enough to make me feel beautiful. This influenced the style, shape and silhouette of my garment which helped refine my pattern cutting skills through creating and tailoring patterns from scratch to fit a specific body shape. After graduating, I’d like to start up my own business that blends plus size/curve fashion and travel, while exploring opportunities to grow both as a plus size/curve and print designer.
