Moyosoreoluwa Owoyeye O

My name is Moyosoreoluwa (Moyo), and my project is called Amunidara, a Yoruba word meaning "one who makes others look good with their handiwork." The inspiration for this project draws from both Western and Nigerian influences — from the elegance of the Dandy man to the unique ways Nigerian men traditionally tied wrappers around their waists and bodies in pre-colonial times. For this collection, I have chosen to work primarily with aso-oke, a handwoven fabric deeply rooted in Nigerian heritage. I am also personally inspired by my great-grandfather, who was not only a tailor but also the head of the tailors’ association in his village. My design philosophy centers around emotional durability: creating garments that are made to last a lifetime. I believe that the clothes we wear should be crafted with intention, thought, and care. Through Amunidara, I hope to encourage a renewed celebration of tailors and the timeless value of their craft.
