I am Tia Blackman, a final year student at Nottingham Trent University, studying Costume Design and Construction BA (Hons), where I have developed a wide variety of technical and design skills. My work centres on storytelling and is driven by in depth script analysis and reliable research methods. Using the information I collated from the script, I then explore the historical and cultural context of the piece, while exploring the psychology of individual characters using books, museums and archives. The projects I worked on such as an Aztec film adapted Pan’s Labyrinth and a whimsical book adaptation of The School for Good and Evil have allowed me to apply these skills in time sensitive briefs to create a cohesive design scheme that feels authentic to the world it is in. After I graduate I aim for opportunities that allow me to have creative freedom in order to develop my understanding of history, storytelling and character building.
