Ravinder Dhanjal

I am a final year BA (Hons) Fashion Design student whose practice explores hybrid identity through colour, dress, and materiality. My work is informed by my experience as a Punjabi woman navigating between Western culture and Indian heritage, using fashion to examine belonging, cultural conflict, and self-expression. My final major project, Fragments of Identity, investigates how clothing functions beyond aesthetics, as a tool for identity construction and emotional expression. I focus on colour, layering, and texture to communicate the tension between control and freedom, tradition and modernity. My designs combine elements of Indian dress with contemporary Western silhouettes, reflecting the fluid nature of identity and cultural negotiation. My work connects with individuals who experience in-betweenness. After graduating, I aim to develop my practice within the fashion industry, focusing on storytelling through design while building my skills and network.
