Imogen Symonds

Studying Costume Design and Making has reinforced my love for designing for the stage/screen. For years I've admired the artistic craft of cinema and partnering this love with the hands-on craft of costuming has been highly rewarding. My two graduate projects A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Secret History have widened my range of costume techniques like tailoring, corsetry, fabric manipulation and costume aging. These have not only expanded my confidence but strengthened my design projects. Operating between hand drawn roughs to developing on Photoshop I can explore new narratives with detailed silhouettes. Also, I studied Character Ideation for my optional module which adapted my designs to be visually more compelling and innovative. I've gained professional skills and etiquette from placement opportunities such as being on-set as the designer, standby or assisting in an opera workroom. These experiences have solidified my goal to keep exploring a career path in screen production.
