Emma Heins

I am a final year Fine Art (BA) student whose practice is shaped by a lifetime with water. Growing up between coastlines, spending summers visiting my grandparents in Holland and holidays in Nice, I developed an awareness of the sea through observing kitesurfers, sunsets and the meeting point between land and water from different distances. These experiences have influenced my interest in maritime landscapes. My work sits between two perspectives: the embodied sensation of being on or near the water and the distant act of observing through a lens. Working from my own photographs and video footage as inspiration, I create across acrylic, oil, collage and digital moving image, often projecting the moving images using MadMapper. I use these sources to capture the feeling of water through impressionism. I have exhibited both solo and group work at Surface Gallery, Nottingham, and aim to continue developing my practice beyond my degree.
