Growing up in the Yorkshire Dales countryside, where I am inspired by the mental clarity I find in the outdoors, my Final Major Project explores the intersection of fashion and functionality, drawing on outdoor and utilitarian influences to create contemporary, wearable pieces. My collection shows a story through my print, collated of primary images captured while exploring the environment around me at university. My print was created with the intent of the wearer feeling at one with the environment, acting as ‘camouflage’. The combination of urban and rural fashion is a merging modern trend with ‘Gorp-core’ being a dominant style choice. Recognising and designing for a rapid growing fashion market is a strength of mine which I aim to bring through in my future career in outerwear design. My deep rooted love and care for the environment naturally connects me as a designer with sustainable and innovative practices, making my Final Major Project personal yet relatable to street/outerwear consumer culture.
