Aoife Linehan

I am a final year BA (Hons) Fine Art student. My practice begins with lived experience: I immerse myself in a moment, capturing it photographically, and translating that frozen fragment into oil paint. Through light, I explore atmosphere and the tension between quiet natural spaces and the intensity of rave culture. I’m drawn to the juxtapositions: calm and chaos, stillness and movement – with light acting as the unifying thread. Recently I have been interested in how similar visual elements, such as rays of light, can evoke entirely different emotional responses depending on their context. In quieter scenes, light may feel meditative and peaceful; in a rave, it becomes electric, immersive, and overwhelming. Through navigating these opposing environments, my paintings consider how context shapes perception, revealing how one visual language can hold both tranquility and euphoria.
