Amber O'Brien

I am a textile designer specialising in weave with a passion for interiors. My Graduate collection ‘Gilded Reverie’ takes inspiration from the grandeur of 18th century architecture, aiming to explore its place in the modern world. Taking time to admire the intricacy of buildings I would normally overlook has allowed me to become more observant in my day-to-day life. Over the course of my textile studies, I have developed the ability produce woven samples reflective of my concept inclusive of both hand and machine woven designs. This has challenged me to translate pieces of visual research into woven fabrics to create a cohesive collection. Participating in the Paul Vogel competition allowed me the opportunity to present my designs, receiving direct feedback that I could work upon in the future. This not only helped boost my confidence in industry briefs but allowed me to explore new outcomes for my designs.
