Lauren Barratt

I am a final year BA (Hons) Fashion Communication and Promotion student. My work challenges conventional industry narratives, with a focus on the queer community and alternative portrayals of femininity. Working across film, creative direction, and print, I’ve developed strong research skills that shape my storytelling. My recent project, 'Paradise Found', explored how the queer community can resist the commodification of queer fashion by fast fashion brands. It was described as “an excellent and thought-provoking piece of work” by former LS:N trend forecaster Gabriela Bialkowska. Outside of fashion, I created a hypothetical craft beer range for Castle Rock Brewery, which won ‘Most Creative Concept’ for using humour and research to challenge traditionally masculine perceptions of beer. During the course, and following an internship with the charity Words Matter, I developed an interest in telling real stories through journalism. I will be continuing this path through an MA in Magazine Journalism.
