I am a final year BA (Hons) Fashion Knitwear Design and Knitted Textiles student. Summer Blues explores maternity wear through a soft, bucolic lens. Inspired by the calmness of the countryside and the cycles of growth in nature, I set out to create an expandable garment that could transition from early pregnancy through to post-pregnancy nursing. My work combines knitwear with natural processes, particularly cyanotype and indigo dyeing. Cyanotype is a photographic technique where fabric is treated with light-sensitive chemicals and exposed to sunlight to create unique blue-toned prints. Indigo, one of the oldest natural dyes, adds deeper layers of blue that echo themes of memory, craft and change. I have focused on sustainability and creating a meaningful connection between material, memory and wear. After graduation, I plan to explore slow design methods in both fashion and education, inspiring future designers to reconnect with traditional making techniques.
