Threads of Heritage is a collection of woven textiles inspired by the landscape and textile heritage of Charnwood Forest, Leicestershire. My fascination with collecting cherished objects has inspired my emotionally durable design ethos. I primarily use British wool sourced from local suppliers, or gifted/discarded natural yarns I have collected over the years. Gathered materials from Charnwood Forest and home are used in the natural dyeing process, including blackberries, Buddleia, privet berry, goldenrod and onion skin, thus giving a variety of colours and depths of shade to the yarns. Each woven piece has a name linking it to a place that is special to me within the Charnwood Forest locality, and to honour the memory of its textile heritage I have included details such as borders and lace structures into the woven designs. Through using natural materials and colours I aim for my designs to be regenerative, and to return to the earth after a long and useful life.
