Referring to ‘a deep sense of longing for and belonging to your homeland’ in Gaelic, slow interiors collection ‘Cianalas’ [“keen-a-las”] seeks to nurture a shared community identity and preserve future heritage through immersive design. Inspired by the untamed beauty of the Scottish Western Isles, this multidisciplinary collection implements an illustrative hand in hopes of reacquainting the rugged, weathered landscapes of the Hebrides with the islands’ diaspora. When experienced alongside a collection of ambient soundscapes, these interior textiles, wall coverings, and soft furnishings aim to evoke a sense of place, belonging, and home. As a specialist in print design with a keen interest in material development, I completed several placements as a print assistant at textile design consultancies and slow fashion brands over the course of my degree. I look forward to developing my interest in fabric innovation and finding my place in the textile industry.
