‘Nurtured by Nature’ is a project routed in wellbeing, inspired by my love for slow craft and early passion for hand embroidery. Much of my practice is centred around tactility, the senses and material exploration, including my second-year project, looking into dementia focused design. Since studying at NTU, upcycling and sustainability have become growing, integral features of my practice, specifically using found materials. Combining personal experiences and photographs from many days spent in the Peak District, I visualise my collection of interior design pieces and wall hangings to sit in a wellness space, for example an office retreat space or breakout zone, offering the familiar busy, stressed worker a dedicated space to relax and engage with the senses, as well as showcasing the calming effects of slow craft. As I build on my practice, I hope to further engage with these important themes of wellbeing and community throughout my career.
