I am a final year BA (Hons) Fashion Management student. Throughout this course I have been interested in sustainable materials; and during my final year I have focused on investigating biomaterials—such as mycelium, bacterial cellulose and lab-grown leather—as alternatives to synthetic leather substitutes. Within my dissertation I explored the use of digital pattern programmes to cultivate zero-waste kombucha leather, reducing textile waste in both the toile stage and the final garment. After graduating I hope to continue researching the biological opportunities within the biomaterials industry.
