‘Rocaille' is an exploration of the exceptionally ornamental and theatrical style of the architecture and art from the Rococo movement. From the fluid organic movement of the interior curves and the pastel tones of the mythological paintings has influenced the mood and overall colour palette used within the collection. I enjoy the intricate detail and sculpting, the gold highlights and the illusion of motion and drama. I have been communicating this through delicate, ornate fabrics using techniques such as beading and hand embroidery as well as combining mixed media processes within the knitted fabrics. I aim to incorporate sustainability within my collection, some of my approaches towards this include using dead stock yarns and incorporating pre-loved materials through deconstructing pre-owned jewellery and embellishing these onto my designs using various beads and jewels. These old possessions continue to hold their memories in my fabrics as precious air looms.
