My passion for costume began backstage at my local theatre, where I watched performers transform into their onstage characters. I’ve always had an interest in storytelling, a passion I have continued to develop through both reading and design, by using costume as a way to bring imagined worlds to life.
Throughout my time at university, I have gained a wide range of practical skills and the confidence to apply them creatively. In my final year, I created a ballet costume for a production of Coppélia, where constructing a tutu was a new and exciting challenge. For my second project, I made a tailored 1920s look based on A Sky Painted Gold, which required in-depth research into historical dress and themes of androgyny. This project also introduced me to millinery, and creating a top hat became one of the most rewarding processes of the year.
I am eager to continue developing my skills and contribute to the vibrant and collaborative costume community.
