Patrick Steele

I am functionally a traditional artist working across painting, drawing, and sculpture. My practice explores and reinterprets Thai and Southeast Asian heritage, constructing visual narratives reflecting personal and socio-political themes, inspired by mythology and folklore. Rooted in a dialogue between past and present, my work reimagines Thai mythology through a contemporary lens, blending Southeast Asian cosmology with symbolism to examine tensions between the sacred and profane and how we perceive modern art. Influenced by traditional techniques, historical movements, mythic and science fiction I balance homage with reinvention by reshaping inherited imagery into cultural hybridisation. My work engages with myths, conflict, transformation, and iconographic patterns, exploring boundaries between the real and mythical through cross-cultural perspectives. As my practice evolves, I expand its conceptual and material possibilities, pushing tradition while remaining inspired by heritage.
