Oliwia Walecka

I’m a Nottingham-based BA Fashion Design student. In the final year of my studies, my work explores the tension between beauty and restriction within femininity, drawing from my dissertation about the woman-flower metaphor and how it has historically shaped and confined women’s identities. My collection includes 'over-cute' volumes to create what I call a 'flower-trap'. The irony is absolute: the wearer is so physically consumed by the silhouette and the sweet aesthetic taht they literally become the flower — stripped of their movement and freedom to serve as a static, ornamental display. I have also explored this with biomaterials, embedding real flowers in bio-silicone to create unique, one-of-a-kind surfaces. As I move forward, I want to continue refining my visual language and pushing my work further within both conceptual and commercial contexts.
