Mariko Nakashima

I came to the UK from Japan with my two cats to study art, and I am currently nearing the completion of my BA in Photography at Nottingham Trent University. I create poetic, character‑focused feline portraits across three styles: Pawtrait (simple portraiture), Purrealism (dreamlike surrealism), and Giant Cat. I enjoy crafting images with soft textures, refined colour palettes, and an atmospheric, slightly magical quality. At the heart of my practice is a wish to create a gentle world where animals are seen with dignity, imagination, and emotional presence. I hope my work connects me with people who share a quiet affection for animals, art, and small moments of beauty. Alongside portrait creation, I am developing skills in photo editing and product design. After graduation, I aim to work professionally in visual editing under the brand name Lilia Lilium, offering custom portraits and creative goods, while ultimately contributing to animal welfare through my art.
