I am a final-year BA Fine Art student working with oil and acrylic to create large-scale paintings. Interested in interconnected personal relationships, memories and social structures, I use visibly impulsive brushstrokes and a dedicated process of layering paint to build up and carve out the work. My aim is to understand my own subconscious, emotional narrative and this creates a very fluid journey of creation, meaning I make work with little planning. Influenced by Abstract Expressionism and Contemporary artists such as Peter Doig, Tracy Emin and Catherine Bradford, I find myself driven by momentary surfacing associations, bridging my subconscious and artistic decisions of colour, weight and composition. I am especially interested in male dynamics, and the conflicting themes of patriarchal structures, parenthood and intimate friendship. The works invite the viewer to question the nature of these relationships, allowing them to address their own inner preconceptions.
