Olivia Burrell

Hi! I’m Olivia, a multidisciplinary creative from Colchester, studying BA (Hons) Illustration. I take particular interest in nature, folklore, and trinketry. My practice vastly stems from an intrinsic calling towards escapism. This manifests in a daydreamy tendency underpinning my work, where I hope to give the viewer a reprieve in which to explore or reignite their sense of wonder. If fantasy is my way of escaping the world, nature is my way of connecting back to it, and so my art combines my fascination with both. To achieve this, I enjoy using all sorts of analogue media – some favourites being oil pastel, charcoal, and linoprint – and then refining it digitally. It is an ambition of mine to become skilled in jewellery-making and metalsmithing, and to apply my illustrative talent within these vehicles to further explore the surreal and whimsical. I would also love to work on book and poster design: I imagine my pieces enhancing a story, or someone’s space at home.
