I am a final year student studying BA (Hons) Design for Film and TV, hoping to join the art department on various productions. Whilst on the course I have realised how much I love designing for the real world, creating little capsules of specific places and times that become instantly recognisable. For my final major project, I adapted John Bude’s ‘Death on the Riviera’, a murder mystery in the 1950s South of France, and designed a grand villa that would be both glamorous and brooding. I took influence from film noir and used this in the landscaping so that the shadows projected onto the walls could be as striking as the villa itself. This course has taught me to better appreciate the artistic choices made within a film, not only through the production design but with cinematography, visual effects and much more. Joining the industry at such an exciting time, I will hopefully be able to play my part in bringing life and creativity back to the medium and push it in a greater direction.
