My Masters projects has been directed to enhance my knowledge and expand my creativity within pattern cutting. Coming from a Costume Design background, my work has always been deeply rooted within history and the inspired by other artist's creations. Moving into a more fashion focused world within my MA, I have been exploring the work of 20th century American fashion designer Charles James, and his ingenious practice of pattern cutting creating simple yet sculptural works of art. Through this research and practical experimentation, I have learned so much about the way other and myself can approach creative challenges within the pattern cutting industry. Through this I recreated some of his technical garments which have deteriorated and lost to time, through a series of half scale recreations as well as a life size accurate recreation of this origami-like yellow evening coat.
