My S/S tailoring project is called Kushona meaning ‘To Sew’/ ‘Suiting ‘in Swahili. My concept was inspired by a volunteer trip to Tanzania and expanded through research into different African cultures including Maasai from Kenya and Sapeurs in the Republic of Congo. Whilst in Tanzania I learnt some Swahili so I decided to put my title in Swahili. The aim of my collection is to celebrate the culture I experienced. Whilst in Africa I witnessed the children left in torn and oversized clothing revealing their skin and making them more vulnerable and I have managed to raise awareness and represent this for example in an off the shoulder tailored jacket. My FMP is print and wrapping/tying.
