Lesley Beale
Lesley is a collector, a curator, who likes to gather things and re-arrange them. She is also a maker. Interested in the process of making, Lesley is intrigued by embodied knowledge and fascinated by repetition and the way the hands take over, allowing the mind to wander when making. Ritual Repetition Remembrance is an autoethnographical approach to death in a secular society. Through the predominate medium of textiles Lesley places ritual at the heart of her practice, which is process rather than artefact led and often performative. The question at the centre of her work is can she make meaningful art through ritual practice and practice meaningful ritual through making art?
