Katie Short is an artist, born in St Albans, who is interested in exploring the shapes that form naturally from negative spaces through the medium of painting. She uses repeated motifs and reuses shapes, in order to challenge preconceived perceptions of ‘the background’. Katie is interested in the natural forms of plants and the female body and how they sit together aesthetically. She has experimented with figurative representations of motifs, focusing on the lines and curves of the motifs and emphasising them using bright, clashing colours. Repetition is a recurring theme within her practice, which manifests itself in the motifs and shapes taken from negative spaces in other paintings.
