This work examines gender fluidity through fashion photography and still life works. Gender awareness is established from early childhood where social and cultural convention constructs a ‘normative’ distinction between male and female. This negates the complexity of gender as mobile and fluid. In China, conventional attitudes prevail and sexual minorities are stigmatized. Through pose, posture, and performance, the works reflect duality, the presented social self, and the performed hidden self. My practice strives to speak up for those marginalized in society and to break down the limitations of binary thinking and create a space of inclusive representation into public discourse.
