Archetype (series), 2020Although painting for many years, REIN’s practice has come to focus on photography and digital editing to explore the female form, what it means to be a woman, and the battle between personal identification and being seen through the eyes of society. After being diagnosed with Social Anxiety in 2017 RIEN came to reflect upon its cause, establishing a greater awareness and view to the ways of being seen, as well as establishing a feeling of multiple identities: How you see yourself and how the world/society sees you. Contextual influences stem from Historical Portraiture, The Headless Women of Hollywood (movement) and John Berger’s “Ways of Seeing”.
