Brogan Smith
Brogan Smith’s hand coiled ceramic sculptures are a recollection of the culture and people she met on travels in the Far East. The liveliness of her adventures materialises onto the forms through illustrative marks, abstract shapes and rich vivid glazes that echo the energetic colours that intertwine within the culture and religion of Bali. She embraces the characteristics of clay to create an assembly of irregular, rippled textured forms and soft-edged domes. Brogan’s imperfect and tactile works explore fluidity and growth, large-scale forms develop from the ground and transform into playful landscapes. These act as a spur for the viewer to immerse themselves within the sculptural display.
