Freya Johnson

I am Freya Johnson, an MA student studying Fashion Design with Creative Pattern Cutting. My practice is centred on architecture and geometric design, expressed in sculptural form. This project is rooted in deconstructionism, taking inspiration from Frank Gehry and Issey Miyake, and modernly envisioned utilising Usha Doshi's manipulation techniques. My previous degree, however, is in Criminology with Sociology; the jump to studying fashion was not on a whim but rather a push to pursue my passion. Although I thoroughly enjoyed my previous degree, I feel I have found my calling in pattern design and technology. This uncommon beginning to the fashion industry only drove me to work harder so as not to appear behind compared to my peers. Therefore, after graduating, I wish to continue this path and learn more about the industry whilst contributing my technical and creative skills.
