I am Bhuja Jeganatha Jenarthanan, an MA Fashion Knitwear student at Nottingham Trent University with a background in Knitwear Design from NIFT and over three years of experience as a Knit Fabric Designer and Technologist. Growing up surrounded by Indian textiles and traditions shaped the way I see design today. I enjoy transforming cultural stories into contemporary knitwear through technical innovation and craftsmanship.
My final major project, Knitudavai (Knit + Pudavai, the Tamil word for saree), reimagines the traditional saree for a modern global audience. Inspired by the beauty, complexity, and cultural significance of the saree, I explore how knitwear can make this timeless garment easier to wear, more comfortable, and more sustainable while preserving its elegance and identity.
I am particularly passionate about circular knitting, hand knitting, crochet, and knit development. I approach design with curiosity, practicality, and attention to detail, always prioritizing quality.
