I am Kate Merriman, a textile designer specialising in printed design. My preferred design style employs a lively palette to infuse interior spaces with uplifting touches and personality. My work is inspired by the playful essence of memories and nostalgia, using a scope of classic and contemporary practices to bring this aesthetic to life, from natural dyeing and ceramics to CAD. My collection is for those who want to rediscover childlike curiosity and crave familiarity in a world that never stands still. My dissertation, which examined the comfort individuals seek through nostalgia, led to the creation of ‘Memory Lane’, a collection centred around my ties to the past. Inspired by trends stemming primarily from the pandemic, including dopamine decorating and increased escapism culture, this innate desire for naivety is captured within the collection. I've found a passion for creating fanciful, engaging designs that elevate spaces by honouring the joy and innocence of childhood.
