Sophie Lynn
I am a multi-disciplinary artist from Durham, currently based in Nottingham. I mainly work with ceramics, glass casts and poetry/sound. I felt drawn to glass since I had work experience in the National Glass Centre. My practice revolves around isolation, drawn from unconventional upbringings and mental health problems. Through using the universal emotion of isolation I hope to let a wider audience empathise with these themes, or even achieve catharsis. Atmosphere is key to my practice; colour, sound, and medium carefully chosen. Blue being significant, finding it cold, peaceful and isolating. By using sound with my 3D pieces I give them voices, almost personifying them. To make the viewer empathise with these objects from a place of distance, away from human prejudices. I keep my work still, and fragile, often broken. My sound pieces are sparse, and quiet, set to a loop. The main motifs being echoes, whispers and overlapping voices.
