In my current practice, compositions are based on scenes taken from the arrangement of childhood animal toys placed on the miniature dais. These work as sculptural pieces in their own right, and as 2D work in photography and painting. In the studio, I spend a lot of time experimenting. Trying different assemblages of my chosen artefacts and how the artist comes to make a piece is based on these combinations of objects. We often try to define ourselves by combining the objects around us. By building these compositions, I try to create a material fact to start from. I hope my work achieves a degree of melodrama to appeal to the emotions of the viewer and plays with the counterpoint of grand monuments of power and religion with children's playthings.
