Madeleine Osborne
In a world where time is constantly slipping away, my practice freezes moments before they remain merely as memories. Fascinated by the mundane, I am an artist and ceramicist employing neutral tones and natural materials to comment on the understated beauty within everyday life. Portraying the comfort brought to my by rituals and routine, my work aims to encourage others to search for a deeper meaning in the things we often overlook. A considered use of traditional and prolonged processes transforms ephemeral speech into a meditative, laborious practice. The paradox of my practice lies within the hours and hours I spend documenting things so fleeting. Having learned various ceramic disciplines, including throwing, slip-casting and glazing, I have sold homeware pottery alongside my degree, working with various customers on private commissions. After graduating, I hope to pursue my business, using my technical knowledge from university to create high-quality aesthetic functional pieces.
